In her first Swiss institutional solo exhibition, the German artist Michaela Eichwald (* 1967) presents all new paintings. Somewhere between abstraction and figuration, language and gesture, her artistic approach unfolds on thickly-layered surfaces made of unconventional substrates like imitation leather or car seat upholstery in an attempt to reimagine art history’s most classic genre: painting.
