In der Kunstszene der Siebzigerjahre galt Michael Buthe als Exzentriker. Er schwelgte in Selbstinszenierungen, trat als Nomade zwischen Orient und Okzident auf und scheute keinen Kitsch. Mit schrillen, zwischen High und Low oszillierenden Inszenierungen schuf er eine radikal persönliche Kunst.
