Vom Dokumentarischen wird vor allem im Kontext von Fotografie und Film gesprochen, die Kunst hat mit anderen Begriffen, beispielsweise dem des Realismus, operiert. Die Ausstellung in Luzern nimmt den aktuell viel diskutierten Begriff des Dokumentarischen auf, um ihn in Form einer selbstreferenziellen Fragestellung ins Zentrum der Kunst zurückzulenken.
