Erik van Lieshout ist heute vor allem für seine zeichnerischen und filmischen Installationen bekannt. Doch davor war er Maler. Seine Malweise, die in ihrer Gestik und mit ungeschönter Darstellung von Sex, Gewalt und Rassismus an Marlene Dumas erinnert, setzt sich in den Kreidezeichnungen der letzten Jahre fort. Ihr direkter Stil nähert sich der Ästhetik von Hip-Hop und Pornographie und übt beissenden Spot an Moral und Machismo.
