Mit «Freiheit ist Freiheit» widmet die Kestner Gesellschaft dem russischen, heute in Paris lebenden Maler Erik Bulatov die seit 1988 erste institutionelle Einzelausstellung in Deutschland. Im Zentrum der eindrucksvollen Werkschau steht der zwölfteilige, zwischen 1999 und 2005 entstandene Bilderzyklus «Bot» (Deutsch: Da), zudem werden weitere Gemälde sowie 39 Zeichnungen gezeigt.
