Yael Bartana nimmt in ihren Filmen einen beobachtenden, stets aufs Persönliche gerichteten Blickwinkel ein. Die israelische Künstlerin zeigt Menschen ihrer Heimat bei typischen Feiern, Vergnügungen und Ritualen, filmt etwa verkleidete Kinder und Erwachsene in orthodoxen Vierteln Jerusalems beim traditionellen Purim-Fest, «When Adar Enters», 2003, oder Freizeitfahrer, die vor Tel Aviv in aufgemotzten Monstertrucks um Geländegewinne wetteifern, «Kings of the Hill», 2003. Bartana zeigt Realität, deckt dabei aber auf subtile Weise mehr auf.
