Trotz viel zur Schau getragener Nationalidentität in den 88 Länderpavillons finden sich unter den Neuzugängen auch Alternativen zu Repräsentation und Folklore. Die dringend notwendige selbstkritische Betrachtung der Rolle dieser Biennale im internationalen Kunst(markt)geschehen wurde mit dem Goldenen Löwen für Angola gewürdigt.
