Alexandra Navratil is an artist whose concerns are very close to both photography and cinematography; her works constantly investigate the boundaries generated by a continuous recalibration of the variables of space and the treatment of time. In one of her latest videoworks "A Fraction of a Second Earlier” the viewer witnesses a slow movement of the camera from the close-up of what we discover to be a mirror to the portrait of a museum's room full of different optical devices. Through the refined employment of cinematic conventions, the artist questions the viewers' points of view, mirroring the viewing tool back to the receiver. It is a constant dialogue with the audience not uttered through words rather by filmic sequences exposing the medium. Caterina Riva
