HES-SO Genève invites applications to HEAD – Genève, Geneva School of Art and Design for the position of:
HES Associate Professor
Head of Visual Arts Department (80%-100%)
Class 25, salary scale of the Republic and Canton of Geneva
Highly involved in the cultural life of the city, HEAD – Genève is a major art and design school in Switzerland with an internationally renowned profile. It welcomes around 750 students hailing from 40 different countries on its BA and MA courses.
Its Fine Arts department offers a BA programme that includes five options. The programme explores the diversity of artistic practices, themes and methodologies, combining technical know-how with theoretical knowledge. The department also offers three MA courses focusing on the development of professional practice in the field of art from a broad and constantly evolving perspective (artist, education officer, researcher, curator, etc.).
Every day, nearly 300 students, 50 lecturers – artists, theoreticians and curators – and numerous international guests make this department a leading place for artistic training in Switzerland.

Job description:
- Manage teams, coordinate teaching and provide strategic, artistic, educational, managerial and administrative leadership for the department.
- Lead a collective educational project that focuses on the professional world and keeps abreast of its changes.
- Develop and implement training objectives and programmes in collaboration with the teaching team.
- Co-design and coordinate the department’s cultural activities: exhibitions, publishing projects, colloquia, conferences, local and international partnerships with cultural institutions and the artistic world.
- Participate in the strategic management and outreach of HEAD – Genève.
- Depending on the time available, teach courses and lead and/or supervise artistic or theoretical research projects.

Profile:
- Ten years’ experience in the field of contemporary art (artist)/or 5 years’ experience in the field of visual arts (curator/art critic/art historian/curator) at national and/or international level.
- Proven team management skills
- Success in leading artistic, curatorial and/or research projects in the visual arts.
- Experience of teaching the arts in higher education.
- A committed, dynamic, inventive, inclusive and caring personality.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Excellent knowledge of French and good knowledge of English.
- Interest in digital tools.
- MA level education or equivalent in the field of visual arts.
