Launched in 2020, the award is open to all public and private European museums and art centres. Its goal is to support the initiatives that are designed to reach new audiences. 

This year, three prizes of €50,000 each and a €10,000 audience prize will be awarded to boost projects aiming at broadening audiences through digital innovations, off-site activities, inclusion of people with  disabilities, new mediation, cultural awakening for the youngest…

Applicants are invited to register in one of the following 3 categories, depending on the attendance of their institution in 2019:
Category 1: Institutions with less than 100,000 visitors per year
Category 2: Institutions with100,000 to 500,000 visitors per year
Category 3: Institutions with more than 500,000 visitors per year

For the 2021 edition, the jury will be composed of :

  • Diane Drubay, founder of We Are Museums
  • Tatyana Franck, Director of le Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne, Board member of PLATEFORME 10
  • Adrien Goetz, Doctor in Art History and Academician
  • Fabrice Hyber, artist and Academician
  • Frédéric Jousset, President of Art Explora
  • Catherine Meurisse, author of comics and Academician
  • Laurent Petitgirard, Permanent Secretary of the Académie des beaux-arts
  • Anna Somers Cocks, journalist, founder of The Artnewspaper
  • Marie-Cecile Zinsou, President of the Fondation Zinsou

The Art Explora – Académie des beaux-arts European Award also acts as a platform for exchanging and sharing good ideas to bring together institutions committed to sharing culture with as many people as possible.
