Salomania reconstructs a dance: the "Dance of the Seven Veils,” from Alla Nazimova's 1923 silent film Salomé. Also shown and rehearsed are sections from "Valda's Solo,” which the choreographer and filmmaker Yvonne Rainer created in 1973 after having seen Nazimova's film. The installation takes up Salome as a transgender figure and the motif of a queer appropriation of the exotic. The performers are Wu Ingrid Tsang and Yvonne Rainer.
Salomania rekonstruiert einen Tanz: den «Tanz der Sieben Schleier» aus dem Stummfilm Salomé von Alla Nazimova aus dem Jahr 1923. Gezeigt und geprobt werden auch Ausschnitte aus «Valdas Solo», das die Choreographin und Filmemacherin Yvonne Rainer 1973 entwarf, nachdem sie Nazimovas Film gesehen hatte. Die Installation beschäftigt sich mit Salome als einer Transgender-Figur und mit dem Motiv einer queeren Aneignung des Exotischen. Performer/innen sind Wu Ingrid Tsang und Yvonne Rainer.
