Die diesjährigen Kulturhauptstädte Europas sind Guimarães und Maribor. Die Schweiz ist nicht EU-Mitglied und konnte bisher keine Stadt nominieren. Nun eigneten sich Kulturschaffende das Label an und wählten zum zweiten Mal eine Kulturhauptstadt der Schweiz: die Thurgauer Gemeinde Pfyn. Das Projekt wird vom Duo Meszmer/Müller geleitet.
