„Gemalte Heimat - Painted Homeland“ 

Ribal Molaeb, a 28-year-old painter and violist, searches for a homeland through his paintings. He seeks diaspora in his works. In their depth, they contain pain, suffering, love, hope, confidence and reflect the life of a young man who wants to find a home through his art.
In an uncertain time full of upheavals, it is more important than ever to find a home.
“Home is wherever there is a relationship.”
The philosopher Wilhelm Schmid is convinced that love of whatever kind can make any place home. Ribal Molaeb shows that home can also be where the longing for it takes shape.

From May 19 to July 21, Ribal Molaeb will be showing images of his longing for a Lebanon that no longer exists in the exhibition “Gemalte Heimat – Painted Homeland” at Galerie Agénor, Zürich. The works shine like summer on the Mediterranean, but they also contain a painful note, the transience of splendid harmony. “There is an inner longing for happiness that I express in painting. But it is a search with smiles with tears, » says Ribal Molaeb.
For him the pictures are a painted home, driven by longing. Maybe a vibrant Lebanon that might not anymore exist. “It’s a world that I create to live in.” he continues.

About the artist:

Born in Baissour, Lebanon, in 1992, Ribal Molaeb moved to Austria at the age of 17, to study at the Mozarteum University Salzburg. He later moved to Vienna to study at the University for Music and Performing Arts, where he received his Master’s degree in Arts with distinction. Molaeb was assigned as the artistic director of “SUMITO’’ Art and Music Association in Switzerland. He is the president of the “Molaeb Art Museum” and the founder of “Molaeb Festival for Chamber Music and Fine Arts”.

His paintings have been exhibited in Amsterdam, Vienna, Beirut, and Zürich, where he currently lives and works.

He is represented by Galerie Janine Rubeiz, Beirut, and Galerie Agénor, Zürich.
