In den 24 Jahren seines Bestehens hat sich der Kunstraum la rada in Locarno als zentraler Ort für Gegenwartskunst im Tessin etabliert. Dabei findet hier ein aktiver Austausch zwischen den Landesteilen und dem nahen Italien statt, in einem Kanton, in dem eine klassische Kunsthalle fehlt.
