Im März 1973 malte Claude Rutault (*1941) zum ersten Mal ein Bild gleich grau wie die Wand seiner Küche. Dieses kleine, 20 x 20 cm grosse Werk war der Ausgangspunkt eines Konzepts, dem er bis heute treu geblieben ist und das mit der Bezeichnung d/m (définition/méthode) bekannt geworden ist. Mit der Ausstellung «(p)réparations» im Genfer Mamco geht der französische Künstler noch einen radikalen Schritt weiter, indem er angefangen hat, alle seine Jugendwerke monochrom zu übermalen.
