Ende der 80er Jahren zeigte Martha Rosler ihre «housing-projects». Das Projekt «If you lived here ...» (1989) in der Dia Art Foundation entsprach einem Informationsbüro, einem Wohnzimmer, einem Bühnenbild – es war nicht ganz zu entscheiden, jedenfalls deutlich anders als die objektorientierten Shows ringsum. Inmitten der schicken Materialästhetik in Sohos Galerien leistete sich da eine Künstlerin eine informative und didaktische Präsentationssprache zu einem politischen Thema: Obdachlosigkeit.
