Die Reihe von Fotografien im Berliner Pergamon-Museum wurde 1996 begonnen und ist 2001 beendet worden. In mehrfacher Hinsicht behaupten diese Bilder eine besondere Stellung im Kontext von Thomas Struths Museumsfotografien. Ein Teil der sechsteiligen Serie ist in einer grossen Amerika-Tournee zu sehen, deren nächste Station im Metropolitan Museum in New York eröffnet wird.
